I've wanted to make this post for a few days but I wasn't sure how to word it. I'm still not, but I feel the need to say something.
When the United States started it asserted that "All men are created equal." That it has had a great deal of trouble living up to this idea has led to a lot of anger.
When a group of people has been oppressed for so long they have a right to be angry. When most people need protection, when we are being threatened we call the cops. But for too many the cops aren't there to protect, they are the threat. When the justice system is against you where do you go for justice?
This is what has led to the Black Lives Matter movement. Unfortunately this has been used as an excuse by hate filled people to attack others. Bad cops have become more violent, people who hate cops have been killing them, and some have tried to say those officer deaths are the goal of BLM and called them terrorists.
All of this hate, all of this violence won't get us anywhere good. Using racist cops or a lone sniper as a way to paint all police and the entire BLM movement as evil will not get us to where we want to be. That place? That is where all of us no matter the color of our skin, or the beliefs in our hearts, or our gender, or who we love change our status in the eyes of the law. It won't be easy but we can live up to the ideal that we are all equal.
